The Comedy Connection of Boston is pleased to announce three shows featuring Jimmy O Yang. Jimmy will be taking the stage on February 24th at 7:30 PM and February 25th at 7:30 PM and then again at 10 PM. He is an accomplished actor, writer, and comedian. He recently played the part of Bernard Tai in Crazy Rich Asians, and Jian Yang on the Emmy-nominated HBO series Silicon Valley. Jimmy currently is a writer and plays the part of Dr. Chan Kaifang on the Netflix series Space Force alongside Steve Carell and John Malkovich.
Born in Hong Kong in 1987 Jimmy and his family emigrated to Los Angeles, California in 2000 when he was 13 years old. At the age of 21, Jimmy did his first stand-up comedy set under the stage name “Lowball Jim” in North Hollywood. From there he made his television debut on the CBS series 2 Broke Girls in 2012 and went on to appear on The Arsenio Hall Show, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Criminal Minds.
In 2014 Jimmy appeared as Jian Yang on HBO’s Silicon Valley. He was originally cast as a guest star making 3 appearances in the first season and became a regular member of the cast in season two. Jimmy remained a series regular on the show until its end in 2019.
Jimmy O Yang is also an author. In 2018 he released his book “How to American: An Immigrant’s Guide to Disappointing Your Parents”. In the book, Jimmy talks about his experience growing up as a Chinese immigrant and what it was like to go against his parent’s wishes to pursue the career he wanted. Just after the book was released Jimmy went on a stand-up tour of the same name.
Debut Comedy Special “Good Deal”
On May 08 2021 Jimmy released his debut comedy special “Good Deal” on Amazon Prime Video. He talks about how he learned to speak English from rap videos, disappointing his old school Chinese parents, dating tall women, and Asian representation. This special will give you a good idea of what you will be in for on 2/24 and 2/25. The special generated a buzz around Jimmy and helped him become one of the most talked about comedians in the industry.
