Who is James Acaster?

James Acaster is an English stand-up comedian, actor, and podcaster. He gained massive popularity with stand-up specials Repertoire and Cold Lasagne Hate Myself 1999. He has won five Chortle Awards, a Just for Laughs Award, and International Comedy Festival Awards at Melbourne and New Zealand.

Acaster started performing stand-up comedy in 2008 after the band he was playing in broke up and he didn’t have many other career options. He spent some time working on his craft and was nominated for Best Comedy Show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe a record-breaking five times. He toured his Fringe performances which became part of the four-part Netflix special Repertoire which was released in 2018. His following tour Cold Lasagne Hate Myself 1999 won a Melbourne International Comedy Award in 2019 and was released as a Comedy special on Netflix in 2020.

Hecklers in the crowd led to Acaster taking a break from performing after 2021. He only performed occasionally in the UK but in 2022 he announced a new US tour: Hecklers Welcome. The tour has largely been a success with The Daily Telegraph giving it five stars and calling it “one of the funniest and most brilliantly constructed shows of the year”.

2025 TV Moment of the Year

James Acaster gave viewers of Saturday Kitchen what some call the TV moment of 2025 when he had a meltdown and trashed the set on live TV. The outburst happened after Acaster learned his dish wasn’t chosen over fellow comedian Ed Gamble’s in a public poll.
