The Comedy Connection has been one of the best comedy clubs in Boston and played a major part in putting the city’s comedy scene on the map over a decade ago. The club hosted well-known comics who got their start in Boston like Steven Wright, Paula Poundstone, and Denis Leary. Since moving to the Wilbur Theatre, the Comedy Connection has continued to give fans a lot to look forward to by bringing in bigger national acts as well as smaller up and coming artists. We thought it would be a good idea to look back at some of our favorite standup performances from Classic Boston Comedians as we prepare to open our doors and welcome our loyal fans back.
Here are some of our favorite standup comedians who have graced the Comedy Connection stage.
Bill Burr
Bill Burr is an internationally acclaimed comedian from Canton, MA who got his start in the Boston Comedy Scene. He was the recipient of the “Comedian of the Year Award” from the Boston Comedy Festival and is a regular on late night TV with Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Fallon. Burr has gained popularity with his rage-fueled jokes and often portrays himself as “that loud guy in the bar” to bring the audience to the floor laughing. He once had a historic run of 19 straight sellout shows at the Comedy Connection in 2015.
Janeane Garofalo
Janeane Garofalo is a can’t miss standup performer who has been a part of the cast on Saturday Night Live and appeared on HBO, FOX, NBC as well as a number of well-known films. She isn’t shy about her progressive views which has made her a favorite comedy act for some fans. Her sold out performances at the Comedy Connection included memorable jokes about TV, dating, relationships, and life in general.
Steven Wright
Steven Wright is a Academy Award winning, Emmy- and Grammy-nominated comedian who sells out shows in theaters across the globe. His skewed comedic view of the world has kept fans laughing since his “Tonight Show” debut in 1982. The deadpan surrealist master has pushed the comedic boundaries in film, television and the live stage since then and continues to be one of the most popular acts on the schedule. His deadpan delivery of ironic, philosophical and sometimes nonsensical jokes has consistently kept the crowd laughing during performances at the Comedy Connection.
The Comedy Connection is excited to be adding shows to our schedule again after being closed for more than a year due to pandemic restrictions. Make sure to check our Boston Comedy Show Schedule to see the latest info on upcoming shows.
